Interior of the church

The Roman Catholic Kuratiekirche St. Martin is the village church of Riedenberg , a municipality in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen . It is one of the architectural monuments of Riedenberg and is registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under the number D-6-72-145-4 , together with the tomb for the Reidelbach family and the processional altar on the cemetery wall . The Kuratie Riedenberg forms the parish community Oberer Sinngrund with the parishes of Oberbach and Wildflecken / Oberwildflecken .

history

In the 17th century, Riedenberg was a branch of the Fulda parish of Schondra . The Riedenbergers had to attend the service there. In the years 1706 to 1708 a small church was built in Riedenberg with the permission of the Würzburg prince-bishop Johann Philipp von Greiffenklau . Pastoral care was taken over by Franciscans of the Kreuzberg and Volkersberg monasteries until 1829 . In 1723, Oberriedenberg was repared from Schondra to Oberbach by contract between the prince abbey of Fulda and the prince diocese of Würzburg . Unterriedenberg initially stayed with Schondra, later Bad Brückenau , and was only assigned to the Oberbach parish in 1830. In the same year, the Riedenberg chaplain was set up because the two monasteries could no longer provide pastoral care. In 1897 the church was expanded. It was extended to the west by the present choir . At the same time, a new sacristy was built on the south side of the choir and a church tower to the west above the nave as a roof turret. The old sacristy on the north side of the nave was demolished. In 1958 Riedenberg became a curate. From 1958 to 1960 a church renovation took place in which the sloping roof turret was replaced. After two unrealized plans in 1964 and 1966, the church was given a widened western extension to the nave by the architects Beyrichen and Stöhlein from Bad Kissingen in 1977 . On November 13, 1977, Bishop Josef Stangl inaugurated the extended church building. In 1989 an exterior renovation was necessary again.

description

The church faces east. The high altar is the work of Franz Driesler from Würzburg and was created in 1903. In its center is a Pietà (around 1700), framed by figures of St. John (right) and St. Mary Magdalene (left). On the right side podium you can see the church patron (created in 1885 by the sculptor Ferdinand Stofflesser from Ortisei in Val Gardena), on the left St. Joseph with Jesus . A painting of the Holy Family can be seen above the Pietà . The celebration altar and the ambo were made in 1977 by the sculptor Manfred Kessler from Stangenroth . On the right side altar there is another figure of St. Joseph under a painting of St. Aloisius , on the left the Mother of God , framed by St. Wendelin (right) and St. Antonius (left) under a painting of St. Agnes . The baptismal font bears the year 1724. The four evangelists from the pulpit , which has been removed today, are mounted in the nave on the right at the back, and the Virgin from the mountain chapel (all from around 1700) on the back left. Helmut Nitzsche from Schwarzenfels painted the "St. Martin" stained glass window above the western main portal in 1977.
