Lauma Skride (* 1982 in Riga ) is a Latvian pianist .

Life

Lauma Skride comes from a very musical family: Her love for music stems from her grandmother, who taught her and her two older sisters to sing. Her father was a famous choir conductor, her mother plays the piano. Her sister Baiba Skride, who is one year older than her, is a famous violinist, and her sister Linda is three years older and plays the viola.

Lauma received her first piano lessons at the age of five. After studying at the " Emīls Dārziņš " music academy in Riga, she studied with Volker Banfield at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater.

She became known to a wide audience through appearances as a duo with her sister Baiba, with whom she also released an album in March 2007 with works by Franz Schubert , Ludwig van Beethoven and Maurice Ravel . Her solo debut album with recordings by Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel was released in January 2007 . Since then she has also increasingly established herself as a soloist. In 2009 she made her debut with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and is a guest with orchestras such as the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra and the Nuremberg Philharmonic Orchestra .
