Laura Gilbert

Laura Gilbert is an American flautist and music teacher .

Gilbert studied at Sarah Lawrence College and the New England Conservatory of Music , received his diploma and masters degrees from the Juilliard School of Music, and his doctorate as assistant to Samuel Baron at the State University of New York . Her most important teachers were next to Baron Julius Baker , Thomas Nyfenger and Keith Underwood . She has taught flute and chamber music at the Peabody Conservatory , Mannes College of Music , Harid Conservatory , Purchase College , Aaron Copland School at Queens College , and Saint Ann's School in Brooklyn. Since 1997 she has also been one of the musical directors of the music company Monadnock Music .

As a flautist Gilbert u. a. with members of the Marlboro ensemble , the Alexander Schneider's Brandenburg Ensemble , the Borromeo-, Brentano, Saint Lawrence and Ciompi String Quartet, the Saint Luke's Ensemble and Orchestra , the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra , the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and the group Speculum Musicae on . With the Greek guitarist Antigoni Goni , she commissioned a series of folk-inspired classical works, which the duo recorded on their debut CD From the New Village .

Gilbert is also a member of The Three Flute Moms and founder and member of the Aureole Trio (with Mary Hammann and Stacy Shames ), with which she recorded twelve albums for Koch International , the first of which was nominated for several Grammys . She also released two solo albums: The Flute Music of Serge Prokofiev and the Flute Music of Tōru Takemitsu .
