The church

The Protestant village church of Wöhlsdorf is in the district of Wöhlsdorf of the city of Auma-Weidatal in the district of Greiz in Thuringia . The parish belongs to the Greiz parish of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

history

This church in Wöhlsdorf is one of the oldest churches in East Thuringia. It was a Romanesque choir tower church from the 11th or 12th century. The late Gothic choir was added in 1503. At that time the ribbed vault was built into the tower floor .

The church itself

The nave has a flat roof. The beams are grooved . The joint and ornament paintings also date from this period.

The late Gothic winged altar has a simple Latin cross in the middle with stylized vine tendrils in the wings and is decorated with bundles of ears of corn. To the left of the altar is the classicist baptismal font donated in 1852 . The organ from 1730 is an artistic achievement from the baroque period .

In the church, art movements are united such as: Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, Classicism and Neo-Gothic.
