Laura Lemon

Laura Gertrude Lemon (born October 15, 1866 in Guelph , † August 18, 1924 in Redhill ) was a Canadian composer and pianist.

Lemon grew up in Guelph and Winnipeg . In 1890 she traveled to England and studied at the Royal College of Music . She was particularly successful as a song composer with songs like My Ain Folk based on a text by Wilfrid Mills , Canada for Ever! (1907), Mighty Dominion (1910) and the Canadian Song Cycle (1911). Emma Albani sang her slumber song in front of Queen Victoria . Lemon wrote the lyrics for some of her songs under the pseudonyms Austin Fleming and Ian Macdonald . In addition, she composed several violin and piano works. She dedicated her Three Moravian Dances for violin and piano (1910) to the violinist Kathleen Parlow .
