Laura Mirachian

Laura Mirachian (born April 16, 1948 in Padua ) is a retired Italian diplomat .

Life

In 1970 she graduated from the University of Padua with a degree in political science . In 1974 she joined the foreign service. From 1975 to 1977 she was employed in Mogadishu and from 1978 to 1983 in Dublin. From 1983 to 1986 she headed the European Economic Community department . From 1987 to 1991 she was employed at the United Nations Office in Geneva and was a member of the Italian delegation to the Uruguay Round . From January 1992 to 1995 during the Yugoslav wars she was first class delegate and chargé d'affaires in Belgrade . From 1995 to 1996 she was employed in the Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean Department. In 1997 she was involved in the negotiations for the Rambouillet Treaty . From 2000 to 2003 she was ambassador to Damascus and from 2006 to 2008 she headed the Europe department. From June 19, 2008 to 2013, she was Permanent Representative of the Italian Government to the United Nations Office in Geneva.
