Carl Hoff (painter, 1866)
Carl Heinrich Hoff , also Carl Heinrich Hoff the Younger (born August 17, 1866 in Düsseldorf , † January 1 or 2, 1904 at Feldberg in the southern Black Forest ), was a German portrait , genre , still life , landscape and vedute painter as well as lithographer and graphic artist .
Life
Hoff grew up as the eldest son of the painter of the same name Karl Heinrich Hoff (the Elder) and his wife Marie Sohn (1841-1893), a daughter of the Düsseldorf painter Karl Ferdinand Sohn , in Düsseldorf and from 1878 in Karlsruhe, where he worked at the Grand Duchy of Baden Karlsruhe art school , where his father taught as a professor, studying painting and various graphic techniques. His brother was the later Düsseldorf association functionary Ernst Hoff .
From 1881 to 1904, when he had a fatal accident on the Feldberg in the Black Forest, Hoff was artistically active, especially in Karlsruhe and Dachau . He toured France , England and Italy . In 1887, along with Heinrich Deiters , Carl Irmer , Carl Jutz , Franz Stegmann and Max Volkhart, he participated in the collection of 40 original engravings in an art portfolio, which was published in 1888 by Estes & Lauriat in Boston under the title The Dusseldorf Gallery . In 1892 he lived in Paris , where he created impressionistically influenced prints. In 1897 he visited Volendam in the Netherlands . Hoff last lived in a villa in Berghausen near Pfinztal , Karlsruhe district office .
