The Laura River is a river in the Kimberley region in the north of the Australian state of Western Australia .

geography

The river has its source in the Bailey Range , about 20 kilometers southwest of Halls Creek, and flows southwest. It crosses under the Great Northern Highway at Dillinger Bore and flows into the Mary River 30 kilometers to the southwest .

Origin of name

The river was surveyed by GR Turner in 1884 . He named it after Laura Louise Forrest , niece of chief surveyor John Forrest .
