Laura Stigger (born September 25, 2000 in Innsbruck ) is an Austrian cyclist . She specializes in the XCO discipline and is two-time junior world champion cross-country (2017, 2018) and junior world champion in road racing (2018).
Athletic career
Laura Stigger has been active in cycling since 2007. It starts for the URC Ötztal . From 2014 to 2016 she was European Youth Champion in Cross Country (XCO) . In 2017 she won the Junior World Championship, the Junior European Championship, the Juniors World Cup and all races of the season.
In July 2018, the junior celebrated her fifth European Championship gold in cross-country (4.2 km and 250 hm) in Graz. After 2017, Laura Stigger won her second junior world championship in cross-country at the mountain bike world championships in Lenzerheide in Switzerland in 2018.
On September 27, 2018, two days after her 18th birthday, in what was only her second road race , the Tyrolean also won the Junior Women's World Championship gold at the UCI Road World Championships in Innsbruck . At the beginning of the 2019 season, she announced that she would initially focus on the U23 Mountain Bike World Cup . On May 19, 2019, she won the series' opening race.
Life
Laura Stigger attended the BORG Innsbruck , which she graduated with the Matura in 2020. She lives in Haiming .

- When she was voted “Tyrol's Sportsman of the Year 2017” she was awarded a Viktor as climber of the year .
- In November 2018, Laura Stigger was awarded the “ Piotr Nurowski Prize ” for the best young athlete by the European Olympic Committee at the EOC General Assembly .
- In January 2019 Laura Stigger was voted Austria's cyclist of the year 2018 . She was the youngest athlete to ever win this election, as well as the winner with the highest number of votes.
