Laura story
Laura Mixon Story Elvington (born September 5, 1978 ) is an American musician, singer and songwriter. Her album Blessings made her number 1 on the Billboard Christian Songs chart and won the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music.
Life
Story's career began in 1996 when Shane Williams of the music band Bald Silers met her at Columbia International University and asked if she would like to join the band as a bassist. She did so and released four albums with the band on it. In 2004, the title track of her album by Chris Tomlin was added to his album and reached number 2 on Billboard Hot Christian Songs.
In 2005, Story married her childhood friend and baseball player Martin Elvington, and they moved to Atlanta to serve as a church worship leader. In 2006 she signed a record deal with INO Records, in 2008 she released her third album, Great God Who Saves (German: Great God, who saves ). In 2010 she was nominated for Female Voice of the Year at the 41st GMA Dove Awards. In 2013 she released her third studio album, God every story .
Story now lives in Spartanburg , South Carolina .
Blessings
In 2011 she released her fourth album entitled Blessings (German: blessing ). The album immediately landed at number 2 on the Billboard Christian Album Charts , and a month later even at number 1 on the Billboard Christian Songs Charts . In an interview, Story stated: Blessings are just a few songs about worship when life is tough. Her husband Martin was diagnosed with a brain tumor and she wondered, why can't you just pick it up, God? You are almighty and loving ... just pick it up!
The removal of the brain tumor from her husband was not without complications, so that his short-term memory, sense of time and immune system were severely impaired. But he also fought his way back to life with years of therapy without experiencing a complete healing. This difficult experience and the three children they had together shaped stories, tested their belief in God and influenced their songs. In the song Blessings she speaks openly about it.
