Laurent Itti (2004)

Laurent Itti (born December 12, 1970 in Tours , France ) is a French researcher in the field of Computational Neuroscience . He is a professor of computer science , psychology, and neuroscience at the University of Southern California .

Life

Itti received his Master of Science degree in “Image Processing” in 1994 from the École Nationale Supérieure des Télécommunications de Paris . In 2000 he received his PhD in Computation and Neural Systems from Caltech .

As a doctoral student under the supervision of Christof Koch , Itti developed a computer model that simulates brain processes when using visual attention. This so-called " saliency model" has been cited by hundreds of peer-reviewed publications. The software implementation of this model is part of the iLab Neuromorphic Vision Toolkit, which is available free of charge under the GNU General Public License .

Itti has also been very active in developing visionary computing applications, particularly those related to autonomous vehicles (both terrestrial and underwater), as well as comparing model simulations with empirical measurements based on a wide range of techniques, including eye-tracking psychophysics , Neuroimaging and electrophysiology .

Itti was Assistant Professor from 2000, became Associate Professor in 2006 and was given a full professorship in December 2013.

Itti has published several dozen peer-reviewed papers. He holds three patents on image processing. Itti also helped develop the co-registration for the Neuroimaging Systems software package, a suite of imaging tools for analyzing neuroimaging data that is routinely used by some hospitals and research laboratories in the US and Europe.
