Laurence

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Laurentum was an ancient coastal town of Lazio southeast of Ostia , where Aeneas landed, according to legend, and where King Latinus had his seat. Under the Roman kings the place was an important trading center.

Laurentum remained loyal to Rome during the Latin war and was therefore independent as an independent ally of Rome, despite its actual insignificance, until the Augustan period . Remnants of Laurentum have been excavated within the state estate of Castelporziano north of Tor Paterno. They are not open to the public.

The Latin first names Laurentius and Laurentia ( male / female from Laurentum ) are derived from Laurentum .
