Laurie Lee

Laurence Edward Alan "Laurie" Lee MBE (born June 26, 1914 in Stroud , Gloucestershire , † May 13, 1997 ibid) was an English poet , novelist and screenwriter . For the 1959 Oscar-nominated short documentary Journey Into Spring , Lee wrote the accompanying commentaries.

His main work consists of three autobiographical narratives:
In the first volume, Cider with Rosie (1959, German title: Des Sommers whole fullness ), Lee tells of his childhood in the village of Slad in the English county of Gloucestershire. It is Laurie Lee's best-known book, has been translated into many languages ​​and has been made into films several times.

The second volume As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning (1969, German title: I went away on a bright morning ) tells of how Lee left his hometown, came to London and visited Spain for the first time in 1935.

The third volume, A moment of war (1991) is about Lee's return to Spain in December 1937, where he joins the International Brigades during the civil war.

Laurie Lee was the younger brother of the film director Jack Lee .
