Lawrence "Laurie" Scott (born April 23, 1917 in Sheffield , † July 18, 1999 in Barnsley ) was an English football player .

life and career

Scott began his Bradford City career as a teenager. In February 1937 he signed a contract with Arsenal FC . He played in the reserve team for two years, after which the Second World War broke out. Scott served as an instructor in the Royal Air Force . During this time he still played for Arsenal. He made his official team debut for the Gunners after the 1946 war against West Ham United . The full-back played at Highbury until 1951 . With the Gunners he won the English Championship in 1948 and the English Cup in 1950. In 1951 he came to Crystal Palace as a player-coach, where he stayed for three years as a coach. He then coached the amateur clubs FC Hendon and Hitchin Town . Internationally, Scott played 33 times for the English national football team and was in the squad for the 1950 World Cup in Brazil , but was not used. He made his debut for England in September 1946 against Northern Ireland . Scott died of a protracted illness in 1999 at the age of 84.
