The Lavamünder Bahn (LBB) has been running on the Lavamünd - St. Paul im Lavanttal route , part of the Lavanttalbahn as a nostalgic railway with occasional freight traffic since 2004. The Lavanttalbahn originally ran to Dravograd (Unterdrauburg) in present-day Slovenia , where it connects to the Drautalbahn Klagenfurt - Maribor joined. The Lavant Valley Railway was interrupted as a result of the First World War and the new border, which made cumbersome corridor traffic necessary. In 1964, the Jauntalbahn between St. Paul and Bleiburg created an inland connection between the Lavanttalbahn and the Drautalbahn. The Lavamünder Bahn remained almost useless.

In 2015 the route was sold to a German recycling company for railway systems and the tracks were removed in February and March 2016. After that and after the recultivation, the railway line is to be sold to residents and communities.

history

On July 1, 1878, the construction of the railway line from Wolfsberg to Unterdrauburg began. This required total construction costs of 2.4 million guilders. The opening ceremony took place on October 4, 1879. The route led from Unterdrauburg via Lavamünd, Ettendorf , St. Paul, St. Andrä and St. Stefan to Wolfsberg. The traffic to Unterdrauburg was stopped in 1965, the passenger transport between St. Paul and Lavamünd in 1997. The final stop for goods traffic came in 2001.

In 2002, four companies and the municipality of Lavamünd founded Lavamünder Bahn- und Betriebs GesmbH (LBB). The aim of this company was to resume rail operations on the Lavamünd - St. Paul route. After intensive preparations and thanks to well-functioning cooperation between private and public authorities, rail operations began with the opening ceremony on October 26, 2002. It did not prove to be successful in the long run, the operating company was shut down and its headquarters were transferred to Graz.

Special trips by the Lavamünder Bahn were possible to order, and the attractions were the amateur engine driver rides with the 383.10 diesel locomotive.
