Lavigeria macrocarpa is a species of plant in the Icacinaceae family from central Africa to Nigeria . It is the only species in the genus Lavigeria .

Lavigeria macrocarpa is an evergreen , woody climber , liana.

The simple, short-stalked and leathery leaves are alternate. The short, hairy petiole is up to 1.5 inches long. The obovate to elliptical, acuminate and whole-margined, upper side bare leaves are 12-28 inches long, 5.5-11 inches wide and hairy on the veins underneath.

Brownish hairy panicles are formed. The five-fold, very small and almost sessile flowers have a double flower envelope . The small calyx is hairy brown. The yellowish petals are bare. There are 5 short stamens . The Upper constant ovary is long hair with a short pencil .

Leathery, ribbed, nodular and red, obovate to ellipsoidal, up to 5-15 centimeters long and 4-8 centimeters thick drupes are formed.

The first description of Basionyms Icacina macrocarpa in 1868 by Daniel Oliver in Fl. Trop. Afr. 1: 357. The establishment of the new genus Lavigeria and the reallocation of the species Icacina macrocarpa to Lavigeria macrocarpa took place in 1892 by Jean Baptiste Louis Pierre in Fl. Forest. Cochinch .: t. 267. Lavigeria salutaris Pierre is a synonym .
