The Law Promontory is an approximately 28 km long and mostly icy promontory on the coast of the East Antarctic Kemplands . It extends on the north-west side of Stefansson Bay in a mainly eastward direction.
An initial mapping was carried out by participants in the British Discovery Investigations in 1936. Norwegian cartographers carried out a new mapping based on aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . They called it Breidhovde ( loosely translated as massive height ). The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia renamed the formation after a visit in 1956 by a team as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . It is named after the Australian polar explorer Phillip Law (1912-2010), who photographed the foothills in February 1954 during an overflight.
