Lawdar ( Arabic لودر, DMG Laudar ) is a town in the Lawdar district of the same name , of which it is the administrative seat, and is located in the Abyan Governorate . Lawdar lies at an altitude of almost 1000 m above sea level. M. The town has almost 14,000 inhabitants. There is an airport around 30 km northwest of Mukayris .

history

Between October 2010 and the beginning of 2011, there was repeated heavy fighting in Lawdar between government troops and insurgents who, according to the government, belong to al-Qaida in Yemen . Dozens were killed in the region on the occasion of the conflicts between warriors of God and the army.

On April 9, 2012, fighters from the group Ansar al-Sharia (Helpers of Sharia), an al-Qaeda youth organization in Yemen, attacked from several directions and occupied the city's barracks.
