Lawrence Gordon Williams (born September 15, 1913 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania , †  July 13, 1975 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1967 and 1975 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Lawrence Williams came to Philadelphia in 1922. He attended Frankfort High School and then the Drexel Institute of Technology . Between 1936 and 1966 he worked for Curtis Publishing Co , where he rose to Vice President for Production. During the Second World War he served in the US Army Air Corps . From 1952 to 1966 he was a member of the Springfield Township Council ; since 1960 he has headed this body. Between 1959 and 1966, Williams represented Delaware County on the Penn-Jersey Transportation Study committee , which dealt with transportation issues in the border area of ​​the states of Pennsylvania and New Jersey . He was also a member of two other regional bodies. He was also president of the State Association of Township Commissioners of Pennsylvania .

Politically, Williams was a member of the Republican Party . In the 1966 congressional elections , he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the seventh constituency of Pennsylvania , where he succeeded George Watkins on January 3, 1967 . After three re-elections, he was able to complete four legislative terms in Congress by January 3, 1975 . During this time, among other things, the end of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement, as well as the Watergate affair in 1974 . 1974 Williams was no longer nominated for re-election by his party.

After his tenure in the US House of Representatives, he was appointed by President Gerald Ford as Advisor to the Vice President of the Ozarks Regional Commission . He held this post between January 20, 1975 and his death on July 13 of the same year.
