Lawrenceville is a census-designated place and community free area in Mercer County in the US state of New Jersey . In 2010 there were almost 4,000 inhabitants. The area is part of the Lawrence Township , which in 2010 had around 33,000 residents.

The place is directly on US Route 206 . About 5 km to the west is the Trenton-Mercer Airport ; the capital Trenton (New Jersey) of the state begins there .

history

The place was founded in 1697 under the name Maidenhead and was then still part of Burlington County . From 1714 he belonged to Hunterdon County . In 1777 Maidenhead was a station for British forces in the Second Battle of Trenton . In 1816 the place was renamed to its current name. It is named after James Lawrence , who was honored in the British-American War in 1812 . Mercer County has been part of this county since it was founded in 1838.

In 1810 the Lawrenceville School, which now has more than 30 buildings including a chapel, was founded. It also became economically important for the place.
