Lovísa Elísabet Sigrúnardóttir (born September 10 , 1982 in London , England ), better known by her stage name Lay Low , is an Icelandic artist and singer.

Lovísa was born to a Sri Lankan father and an Icelandic mother. She came to Iceland when she was young and has lived there ever since.

She began taking piano lessons as a child , later adding bass and electric guitar . During her youth she performed with several local bands. The first time she sang in the "Benny Crespo's Gang", in which she also played keyboard and guitar.

Lay Low, Lovísa's alter ego, was born in early 2006. It was recorded by Cod Music, a local label that showed interest in a demo song that Lovísa released on Myspace . Their music combines elements from blues , folk and country .

Lovísa rose quickly in the music industry. Just a few months after her discovery, she released her debut album, Please Don't Hate Me , for which she received gold within two months. In 2006 she was nominated for four Icelandic Music Awards, two of which she won: Best Female Singer and Best Album Cover. She was also named the nation's most famous artist in 2006.

In 2007 she got a role in the play Ökutímar by Leikfélag Akureyrar. She was supposed to write songs for the piece and sing cover songs for Dolly Parton . The piece was a great success and the following year the soundtrack was released. Lovísa also worked with Icelandic musician KK, who wrote songs for the Baltasar Kormákur film Brúðguminn . In addition, she brought out an album with Benny Crespo's gang .

In mid-2008 Lovísa spent some time in London recording her third solo album, Farewell Good Night's Sleep , which was released on October 16 of the same year. The album was recorded at Toerag Studios and produced by Liam Watson.

In 2009, Lovísa went on an extensive tour, mainly supporting Emilíana Torrini in Europe and the USA and headlining shows around the world. She has also performed at festivals such as Glastonbury , End of the Road and Into The Great Wide Open . That same year, Lay Low and a film crew recorded Flatey , a live CD / DVD performance on the tiny island of Flatey that was released in September.

On November 4, 2009, December , a film by Hilmar Oddsson , premiered. Lovísa played one of the leading roles in the film alongside the well-known Icelandic actors Tómas Lemarquis , Laufey Elíasdóttir and Stefan Hallur Stefánsson. This was her first job as an actress for a film.

The year 2010 began for Lovísa with tours far from home, traveling to Australia and Tokyo with Emiliana Torrini. In the spring she got the opportunity to work in the film industry again by writing and providing some songs for the film Kóngavegur .

In 2012, Lovísa opened for Of Monsters and Men on their US tour.
