The Lazika ( Georgian ლაზიკა , Lasika ) is a Georgian armored personnel carrier , which was displayed for the first time on a military site in February 2012. The development by the Georgian armaments company STC Delta should not have taken more than a year. Further variants of the vehicle are planned. It is partly based on components of the Soviet armored personnel carrier BMP-1 . The main feature is its strong armor compared to similar models. The Lazika is the third military vehicle that has been developed in Georgia for its own land forces since 2010 .
The name of the tank refers to the ancient kingdom of Lasika that existed in the western part of today's Georgia .
Armament
The primary armament of the first version consists of a 23 mm automatic cannon that fires 23 × 152 caliber shells and a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, both of which are installed on a remote-controlled weapon platform. Secondary armament can be anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles.
Furnishing
The Lazika is equipped with several night vision and thermal imaging cameras that are available to both the driver and the shooter. The electronics and communication systems are state of the art according to the company's own information. Monitors show digital maps and are connected to a satellite navigation system. There is also a friend / foe recognition system, similar to that of battle tanks. Separate seats with safety belts were installed for the comfort of the riflemen on board. Above the seats there is a hatch as an emergency exit or for conducting a fire fight.
Armor
The combined armor ensures all-round protection against armor-piercing ammunition in the 14.5 × 114 mm caliber, against explosions from 10 kg mines in the immediate vicinity and from 6 kg mines directly below the hull. The exact composition of the armor is confidential.
