STC Delta

The Institute STC Delta (short for S cientific- T echnical C enter Delta ; Georgian სსიპ - სსსტც დელტა) is a public production and R & D facility for military and civilian equipment in Georgia . The institute, based in the capital Tbilisi , was founded from a total of six scientific research centers and production facilities, the history of which goes back to the early 1940s of the former Georgian SSR .

STC Delta employs several thousand people and focuses on the production, research and development of new military projects as well as the modernization and production of already established Soviet military hardware. The STC Delta falls under the jurisdiction of the Georgian Ministry of Defense after it was in the meantime under the Georgian Ministry of Economic Affairs.

history

The story of STC Delta begins in 1995. At that time the reactive anti-tank rifle RPG-7 , fragmentation projectiles of the type "Kodor" for the RPG-7, 82 mm and 120 mm mortars and other small arms and ammunition for the Georgian armed forces made. In 1999 the institute presented its product range abroad for the first time, namely at the Romanian armaments fair EXPOMIL-99 . From 2000 to 2002 Delta produced small quantities of light attack vehicles of the types DELGA-1 and DELGA-2 , which were handed over to Georgian special forces for testing . With the aim of establishing a military-industrial complex in Georgia, the state-owned company JSC Tbilaviamscheni and all its assets were integrated into Delta on July 1, 2010 . As a result, the product range was expanded to include the aviation division, which can look back on many years of experience, for example the Sukhoi Su-25 fighter aircraft was built in Tbilisi during the Soviet era . The 2008 Caucasus War underscored Georgia's ambitions to build an independent domestic arms industry. In addition to handguns, a number of armored vehicles such as the Didgori , the Lazika or the multiple rocket launcher DRS-122 have also been produced since 2010, as well as unmanned aircraft . Since 2014, in addition to protective vests and helmets for military and civilian use, sniper rifles , pistols and optical sighting devices have been manufactured, which are supposed to be qualitatively comparable to Western products. In 2016, products worth almost 300 million Lari were exported, including an order from Saudi Arabia for the delivery of 100 Didgori Medevacs .
