Lazlo Balogh

Lazlo Balogh (born April 7, 1954 in Bonyhád ; † June 22, 1973 near Spechtsbrunn ) was a fatality on the inner-German border .

Life

Lazlo Balogh, a Hungarian citizen, lived as a guest worker in the GDR. In 1972 he met Siglinde B., a citizen of the GDR, and became engaged to her. The couple decided to flee to West Germany together. After crossing the first fence, Siglinde B. stepped on a mine and was seriously injured. Lazlo Balogh helped her get over the second fence and then climbed it himself. He was shot in the process and died immediately.

Siglinde B. lost part of her right lower leg and was imprisoned until 1975 after she was released from hospital. In 1978 she was allowed to leave Germany.

The shooter Volker E. died in the 90s before a trial was opened because of the crime.

West of the Spechtsbrunn- Tettau street is a memorial plaque for Lazlo Balogh.
