Le Terrible (S 619) ("The Terrible") is the fourth and last nuclear submarine of the Triomphant class of the Navy nationale .

The keel was laid on October 24, 2000. The launch was on March 21, 2008. On September 20, 2010 the boat was put into service.

The submarine is one of the first strategic nuclear submarines with submarine-based intercontinental ballistic missiles of the type M51 equipped. Compared to the M45 ICBM , which is currently being used on the other nuclear submarines, the M51 has a greater range of an estimated 8000 km (M-45: 6000 km) and greater precision (50 m).

Its armament also consists of 18 torpedoes of the type F17 and of anti -submarine anti -ship missiles of the type SM39 .

The boat was presented on March 21, 2008 in Cherbourg by French President Nicolas Sarkozy . After its commissioning in 2010, the submarine of the Force océanique stratégique (FOST) was placed under the French nuclear deterrent, which is based on the island of Île Longue (near Brest ).
