Lea Mersch

Lea Mersch (born September 28, 1987 ) is a German national basketball player . She studied psychology at the Ruhr University in Bochum .

Life

Mersch started playing basketball with the Paderborn Baskets in 1994 . In 2004 she went to a high school in Houston, Texas and after six months returned to Germany, where she made promotion to the 2nd women's basketball division with SV Brackwede . In 2005, at the age of 17, she moved to the 1st women's basketball league at evo New Basket Oberhausen . For her achievements in the 2007/2008 season, Mersch was honored as the best young player (rookie of the year). From 2009 to 2011 Mersch suffered from an Achilles tendon injury and was out in the first two months of the 2010/2011 season. She was able to cure the inflammation and thus take part in the 2011 European Championship in Katowice, Poland with the national team. From 2011 to 2013 she played for the Prague first division club DSK Karlín. In summer 2013, she played her 50th international match with the German national team against Israel. In the 2013/14 season she returned to NB Oberhausen and resumed her studies with a prospective Master’s degree in business psychology in 2015. Since the beginning of the 2014/15 season, she has been the team captain of the NBO.

In the 2014/2015 season she was relegated with Oberhausen. Since the Rhein-Main Baskets withdrew their first team from the first division after the end of the 2014/2015 season, Oberhausen remained in the league. Lea Mersch signed a contract with the district neighbor Herner TC for the 2015/2016 season.

The 1.70 m tall player was a U20 national player and played her first international match in 2008 in the 45:69 defeat against France , in which she also scored her first four international match points.
