Leandro Izaguirre

Leandro Izaguirre (born February 13, 1867 in Mexico City , † February 26, 1941 ibid) was a Mexican painter and illustrator .

Life

Izaguirre studied from 1884 under Santiago Rebull and José Salomé Piña at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes (ENBA) in his hometown and then for four years in Europe. His best-known picture was created in 1892 and is entitled El suplicio de Cuauhtémoc ( The Torment of Cuauhtémocs ). He was awarded a medal for this at an exhibition in Philadelphia in 1893. After Juan Urrichi's death , he also succeeded him in 1893 and taught as a professor of drawing at the ENBA. He also worked for some time as an illustrator for the newspaper Mundo ilustrado . In view of the impending establishment of the Secretaría de Educación Pública , President Díaz sent him from 1904 to 1906 as an inspector to Europe. Then he taught again at the ENBA.
