Reason: What is LearningApps now: a software (then please put an infobox) a platform or an association? The literature given seems to come from those involved in the project. NPOV? - Katakana-Peter ( discussion ) 11:30 am, May 1, 2017 (CEST)

LearningApps is a free, web-based authoring software and platform to support learning and teaching processes with small interactive, multimedia learning modules (e.g. multiple choice , assignment exercises, fill-in-the-blank test ). Learning modules can be integrated directly into learning content (e.g. wiki , blog , learning platform ), but users can also create or change them online themselves. Each application is made available via a QR code .

LearningApps is operated and further developed by an association.

Example of a multimedia learning module

Interactive, multimedia learning module

The authoring tool allows different multimedia formats to be used and mixed. Comprehension exercises are possible in foreign language classes. An example: The learners have to assign short radio and television sequences about job descriptions to tag clouds, which describe these jobs in keywords. The difficulty lies in first listening to the conversation sequences, visualizing the content of the conversations and then identifying the tag clouds that match the content. In contrast to assignment tasks with images and texts, this task format places higher cognitive demands on the learners.

history

LearningApps was created in 2009–2012 as part of a research and development project at the University of Education in Bern (Michael Hielscher, Werner Hartmann ), in cooperation with the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Franz Rothlauf) and the University of Zittau / Görlitz (Christian Wagenknecht). The project idea and technical implementation go back to the ProgrammingWiki platform (Christian Wagenknecht, Michael Hielscher) and the Questix and Matchix prototypes of authoring tools for Matching Learning Environments (Markus Sauter, Ruedi Arnold, Werner Hartmann). In November 2014, LearningApps was awarded the “Pädi 2014” in the “Special Prize” category. In 2015 the association LearningApps - interactive learning modules was founded as the provider of the offer.

Templates for learning modules

The authoring tool now offers over twenty templates for learning modules, a number of collaborative tools and a framework for developers to design learning games. The task types of the templates can be divided into six groups:

  • Selection tasks (multiple choice, fill in the blanks, marking in the text, who will be a millionaire)
  • Assignment tasks (assign pairs, assignment on pictures, assignment on map, group assignment, etc.)
  • Sequence tasks (sequence or order, number line)
  • Writing tasks (fill in the gap with input, quiz with input, crossword puzzles, hangman, filling out a table)
  • Multiplayer tasks (order challenge, guessing, where is what ?, multiplayer quiz)
  • Tools (app matrix, audio / video with overlay, chat, joint writing, calendar, mind map, notebook, pin board).
Multi-person game virtual shopping

With the authoring tool, tasks can be gamified and designed as multi-person games online. An example to promote the estimation of magnitudes in mathematics lessons: In a virtual purchase, the learners have a certain amount of money at their disposal, with which as many purchases as possible can be made in a short time. Whoever makes the most of his money gets the most points in this round.
