The Lebendige Museum Odershausen is a village museum in the Odershausen district of the city of Bad Wildungen in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse .

Geographical location

Odershausen is located south of the core town of Bad Wildungen in the eastern part of the Kellerwald-Edersee nature park . The federal highway 253 and the federal highway 485 meet on the south-eastern edge of the town . The museum is located on Wildunger Straße No. 3, between Wildunger Straße and Kaltebornsbach, which flows by to the north.

history

The "Association for the Preservation of Historical Agricultural Machinery and Tractors eV", founded in 1989 in Odershausen, had set itself the goal of setting up and running a "living museum" to present traditional rural and village life. With the acquisition of two large, adjacent barns in 1991, the plan began to take shape. One, built in 1741, is one of the oldest buildings in the town and was part of the Meyer family's farm for many years. The other, first mentioned in 1758, was part of the Debes family farm and owned for over 200 years. When the last land issues were resolved in 1993/1994, the remaining parts of the building and the former silo of Meyers Hof were acquired and everything was brought together into a large museum.

In 1996 and 1997 the museum buildings were extensively renovated by the city of Bad Wildungen and the association. The state of Hesse and the EU also provided funding. The costs for the renovation of the buildings amounted to almost one million euros; This sum included the contributions of the members of the association to a considerable extent.

In the two barns and on the museum courtyard, traditional agricultural working methods and old handicrafts are presented and maintained. Machines, devices and tools enable an "interactive" journey into bygone times.

On the rather large property, the museum comes to life once a month from May to November and the exhibition becomes a show. Usually on the third Sunday of the month the museum is “alive” and the active members of the association, sometimes in costumes, demonstrate how village life used to be.

Depending on the current season, for example:
