Life Saving Medal (Bulgaria)

The life saving medal was donated on October 15, 1908 by the Bulgarian Tsar Ferdinand I and could be awarded to anyone who had saved someone on land at their own risk.

The award consists of three stages:

Appearance

The award is a round medal that hangs on a tsar's crown. On the obverse it shows the portrait of the founder looking to the right with the inscription in Cyrillic Ferdinand I Tsar of Bulgaria . On the reverse the three-line inscription За спасяване погибающи (for saving life), enclosed by a laurel wreath .

After the accession to the throne Boris III. In 1918 the obverse was changed and from then on it showed the portrait of the now reigning tsar with the corresponding inscription.

Carrying method

The medal was worn on a white ribbon with wide green side stripes and a narrow red central stripe on the left side of the chest.

Others

With the end of the monarchy in Bulgaria in 1946, the award of the medal was stopped.
