The “ LebensWerkstatt for people with disabilities e. V. “ is a social enterprise for people with mental or physical disabilities in adulthood in the Heilbronn-Franconia region.

It was founded in 1967 by the Heilbronn citizenship and is a member of the Wuerttemberg Diaconal Work . Today LW has more than 1900 employees (including trainees , interns , FSJ and BFD employees) at eight locations from Heilbronn to Crailsheim . The company's purpose is to support people with disabilities to participate in social life. This is done by providing support services. Around 1,300 people with disabilities are cared for in the labor market segment and around 430 clients in the living and leisure segment.

The Heilbronn location, initially housed in the premises of the municipal transport company , moved to a new building in Heilbronn- Böckingen in 1980 , which was expanded in 1989 and in 2009 received the "Great Hugo" , an architecture prize from the regional association of the Association of German Architects . Today (as of January 2019) it comprises 116 employees who look after 345 employees in the work area, 40 participants in the vocational training area and 62 people in the support and support area.

In the labor market segment, jobs are offered in the companies: assembly / packaging, electrical assembly, wood processing, metal processing and service (garden and landscape maintenance, housekeeping). Associated with the work are educational offers based on the general training framework plans. This takes place on the one hand in the company's own vocational training area (BBB) with vocational preparation offers, and on the other hand in the LebensWerkstatt's education workshop with offers that accompany work.

In the residential and leisure market segment, people are cared for on an outpatient and inpatient basis in individually desired forms of living. Open offers for leisure and culture are intended to support basic social needs and improve the quality of self-determined living and living. The LW offers places for the federal voluntary service and the voluntary social year as well as for internships and pre-study internships. In 2017 the Schutzende Werkstätte celebrated its 50th anniversary. The anniversary was the reason for the name change, since then the Heilbronn Protective Workshop has been called LebensWerkstatt since June 30, 2017 .
