Liver values
When liver function is defined as a combination of several in the lab using a blood sample set of values that damage the liver should display.
These include the activities of the liver enzymes ASAT (formerly: GOT), ALAT (formerly: GPT) and GGT . Added to this is the concentration of the metabolite bilirubin in the blood. The activity of the enzyme cholinesterase (ChE) and the Quick value (TPZ) indicate the metabolic function of the liver.
An increase in liver values can be caused by a variety of medications, diseases (bacterial, parasitic, viral), toxic damage ( alcohol , other drugs , poisons of all kinds) or a fatty diet over a long period of time. A narrowing of the bile ducts caused by gallstones , bile semolina or a PSC and the resulting backlog of bile ( cholestasis ) can lead to increased liver values.
