The Lechner Museum in Ingolstadt is dedicated to the work of the steel sculptor Alf Lechner . It was opened on February 20, 2000 in the presence of the Bavarian State Minister Hans Zehetmair .

The total area of the museum is around 2,200 m². For a long time the basement of the museum housed the room installation "Eisenmeer WV 588", which consisted of 51 steel blocks, and on the upper floor, changing exhibitions show the wide range of Lechner's work. In addition, special exhibitions with works by other artists are shown again and again.

The museum was created by the architects Erhard and Florian Fischer by converting a former factory hall. The shed roof hall from the 1950s, in an inner-city location right next to the old town, was originally used by Audi for automobile production . Inside, the building was dismantled down to the supporting structure. The cubic structure was clad with bright rolled aluminum composite panels. The hall is supplemented by a glass porch in the north, which serves as a foyer. The main entrance is also located here.

In 2001, the architects Fischer received the German Facade Prize for ventilated curtain walls (VHF) for the conversion of “Hall IV” into a museum . The museum is operated by the Alf Lechner Foundation and the city of Ingolstadt. The construction costs amounted to around 920,000 euros.
