Lecturio is an international e-learning platform based in Leipzig.

history

Lecturio was founded in 2008 by the graduates of the Leipzig Graduate School of Management Tim Koschella and Martin Schlichte. Originally, Lecturio was supposed to enable students to catch up on missed lectures and seminars through video recordings. For this purpose, lectures and seminars were recorded in order to make them available online. However, many universities and colleges were not ready to embrace the new idea, so the basic idea was restructured. Lecturio developed into a platform for professional online and mobile learning.

The first financing came from business angels , then from venture capital funds. After the Saxon Technology Founders Fund, Holtzbrinck Ventures followed in 2011, and in 2014 the French venture capitalist Seventure Partners joined as investors.

Lecturio has been a partner of the XING Internet network since 2013 .

Products

The main focus is on courses in law, economics and medicine. In terms of content and structure, these courses are particularly aimed at students, e. B. Law revision courses or preparatory courses for the state examination .

There are also the areas of software, career & success, accounting & taxes, languages, health and leisure. There are internal areas on the site that only members of a college or university can use with a special access. Lecturio works with various universities, e.g. B. the Friedrich Schiller University Jena , the Ludwig Maximilians University Munich (LMU), the Technical University Munich (TUM), the University of Leipzig and others. The free registration enables the use of free and chargeable lectures or courses as well as quizzes for direct control of what has been learned. The specially developed player consists of three windows and enables users to see the content and the learning slides in addition to playing the learning video. The videos are recorded professionally, either on site or in our own studio.

The technical expansion followed in 2013 in the form of a mobile app , initially only for iPod, iPad and iPhone, since 2014 also for Android devices and with offline mode.

In 2015, Lecturio launched a platform for medical students in English. This provides all the content needed to prepare for the US Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and the US medical exam exams.

criticism

E-learning platforms like Lecturio are particularly critical of the university lecturers: the learning effect of an online course from home can never be as high as in a face-to-face seminar. In addition, portals of this type would deal with the "common good education".

  • 2009 and 2012 special prize of the S-Beteiligungen of the Sparkasse Leipzig , within the scope of the Leipzig founder award ceremony.
  • 2016 Reimagine Education Silver Award in the “Digital Content” category.
