The leather knife is a common figure in heraldry and is rarely found in coats of arms.

The hand tools from the saddlery and cobbler's shop are suitable for preparing leather goods. Of the various shapes, the cradle-shaped crescent shape is the preferred one for heraldry. Various terms such as saddler's knife , half-moon knife and shoemaker's half-moon are known and denote the figure. In guild crest of the shoemaker it is displayed. In terms of color , anything is possible in heraldry. The knife can easily be confused with other heraldic figures. The litter division in the coat of arms looks similar. It is also possible to confuse it with a similar form of wolf tang. The representation with the blade pointing to the shield head or the shield base is preferred.
