Herbert Dorfmann
Herbert Dorfmann (born March 4, 1969 in Brixen , South Tyrol , Italy ) is an agronomist and member of the European Parliament for the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP).
Life
After finishing school, Dorfmann completed a degree in agricultural sciences at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Piacenza , which he graduated with a laurea in science and technology agriculture . After some time as a teacher at the agricultural school in Auer , he took over the management of the agriculture department in the Bozen Chamber of Commerce . As director of the South Tyrolean farmers' association , he then headed the association for almost ten years.
From 2005 to 2009 Herbert Dorfmann was mayor of his home town of Feldthurns ( South Tyrol ). During the same period he held the office of Secretary General of the Association of European Wine Regions (AREV).
In June 2009 Dorfmann moved into the European Parliament with 84,361 votes, where he became a member of the Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) . In parliament he is a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI) and a member of the board of the European People's Party (EPP). At the local political level, Dorfmann was elected district chairman of the SVP in Eisacktal in 2009.
In the European elections of 2014, he made it into the European Parliament a second time. With a total of 93,949 preferential votes, he was able to improve his personal result, especially in the neighboring provinces of South Tyrol. Dorfmann is also a member of both the Italian and Austrian delegations of the EPP. Dorfmann has held the office of President of the European Parliamentary Society (EPG) since October 2014 . At the beginning of 2015 he was unanimously elected President of the parliamentary Intergroup for Wine, Spirits and Quality Food. Since moving into the European Parliament, he has been part of various delegations such as for the parliamentary cooperation EU- Kazakhstan , EU- Kyrgyzstan , EU- Uzbekistan and EU- Tajikistan as well as for relations with Turkmenistan and Mongolia .
In 2019, Dorfmann was able to win a mandate for the European Parliament for the third time with 100,441 preferential votes. Also in his third legislative term, he is a member of both the Italian and Austrian delegations of the EPP, and he was elected coordinator in the Agriculture Committee. He is also vice-chairman of the delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly, member of the delegation for relations with the countries of the Andean Community, deputy in the Committee on Budgets and in the Committee on Regional Development. In October 2019 he was confirmed as President of the European Parliamentary Society (UPC).
Dorfmann is married and has two sons.
