Lee Hu-rak (born February 23, 1924 - October 31, 2009 ) was director of the secret service in South Korea from 1970 to 1973.
Lee Hu-rak was the right hand man of former President Park Chung-hee . In 1972 he secretly traveled to North Korea to agree an inter-Korean agreement with the then head of state Kim Il-sung , called July 4 South-North Joint Communique.
Lee was elected to the Gukhoe , the National Assembly of South Korea, in 1979, but banned from political activities in 1980 on charges of corruption. Although the allegations were rolled back in 1985, he remained outside of politics until his death in 2009 .
Lee died at the age of 85, leaving behind a daughter and four sons.
