Lee In-young

Lee In-young ( Korean : 이인영 , Hanja : 李仁榮, born June 28, 1964 in Chungju ) is a South Korean politician .

Life

Lee In-young was born on June 28, 1964 to an elementary school teacher. He attended Chungju High School, then studied Korean at Korea University with a bachelor's degree and information and communication with a master's degree . During his student days he became interested in politics and led the June 1987 fight as chairman of the national student council . He was then arrested for violating the National Security Act and detained for a while. After his release, he continued to work as an activist and met his wife Lee Bo-eun and his political mentor Kim Geun-tae .

Political career

In 2004, Lee In-young was elected to the National Assembly for the first time . In 2008 he lost the election, from 2012 he was continuously re-elected. In 2010 and 2015 he ran for the party chairmanship, which he did not achieve. Instead, he was repeatedly one of several deputy party leaders. From 2019 to 2020 he was parliamentary group leader of the Joint Democratic Party . In July 2020 he was appointed as successor to Kim Yeon-chul for Unification Minister appointed.
