Leemor Joshua-Tor (* 1961 in Israel ) is an Israeli molecular biologist and professor at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory .

Leemor Joshua-Tor graduated from Tel Aviv University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and received a PhD in chemistry from the Weizmann Institute in Rehovot. As a post-doctoral student , she was at Caltech and then at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, where she became an Associate Professor in 1999 and Professor in 2005. She is the dean of the Watson School of Biological Sciences. She has also been a researcher at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute since 2008 .

It deals with enzymes that are involved in RNA interference in the cell . In 2004 she and colleagues identified an argonaut protein (Argonaute 2) as a slicer of the messenger RNA in the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and clarified the structure of the protein, initially for the prokaryote version. The structure of the human Argonaute-2 was also clarified in her laboratory in 2012.

She also looked at the protein called E1, which is found in papillomaviruses that cause cervical cancer and belongs to the helicases . She showed that several E1s form a complex that threads a strand of DNA through.

She received the Beckman Young Investigator Award and the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Award from the Protein Society. In 2017 she was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences .
