Leesi (historical German name also Leesi ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the Estonian rural community Kuusalu (German Kusal ) in Harju County .

Location and history

Leesi has 43 inhabitants (as of 2010). The distance to the Estonian capital Tallinn is about 67.9 km and 23.9 km to the local rural community - "capital" - Kuusalu settlement . The village is located on the west coast of the Juminda peninsula (German Jummida ) directly on the Baltic Sea .

Leesi was first mentioned in 1517 as Leisy .

Between 1865 and 1867, the St. Catherine's Church was built from stone. It became necessary after the Juminda Chapel, four kilometers away, nearly fell into disrepair. The organ of the church comes from the Estonian organ builder Gustav Terkmann (1850–1924). It was inaugurated on May 29, 1905.
