Gustav Terkmann
Gustav Terkmann (born September 10 . Jul / 22. September 1850 greg. In Nõva ; † 16th May 1924 ) was an Estonian organ builder .
Life and organ building
Gustav Terkmann was born as Kustav Targamaa. For advertising and patent reasons, he changed his Estonian name to a German one before the First World War .
Terkmann was a student of the Estonian organ builder Gustav Normann (1821-1893). In 1882 Terkmann made his first organ. He later moved to the Estonian capital Tallinn and founded a successful organ building company there.
As an organ builder, Terkmann belonged to a transitional period: his organs had mechanical action , but he was already using pneumatics for the registers . Only his son August Terkmann started building fully pneumatic organs.
