Evangelical Church in Wintersweiler from the southeast

The Evangelical Church of Wintersweiler is located in the Wintersweiler district of the southern Baden community of Efringen-Kirchen . The medieval bell tower of the church dates from the 13th or 14th century, the nave is a new building built in 1765. Their first documentary mention can be traced back to the year 1402.

history

A church consecrated to Saint Oswald appears for the first time in a document in 1402 ("kilche ze sant Oswalt ze Winterweiler"). In the years 1360 to 1370 a branch church of Mappach is mentioned; possibly the church in Wintersweiler was meant. The oldest part that has been preserved is the west-facing three- story bell tower from the 13th or 14th century.

The medieval church was rebuilt in 1765 in the style of that time, with the exception of the basic structure of the tower. The spire was replaced in 1806. In the years 1946 to 1954, after severe damage from the Second World War, extensive repair work took place, during which Jürgen Brodwolf exposed the whitewashed murals. During further restoration work from 1975 to 1977, the lost Bible verses under the murals were replaced.
