Evangelical Church Efringen
The Evangelical Church Efringen , also known as the Luther Church, in the district of the same name in the parish of Efringen-Kirchen in the district of Lörrach, dates back to the 12th century. Construction of the late Gothic church that is preserved today began around 1500.
history
The first documented mention of the Efringen Church ("ecclesia in Everingin") goes back to 1157. The tower, which has largely been preserved to this day, also dates from this time. The nave was rebuilt in the late Gothic period. From this, the north wall was moved outwards in 1702 to enlarge it. In the course of this work, the windows in the nave were also designed to be arched and a flat wooden ceiling was installed. In 1895 consideration was given to crowning the roof in need of renovation with a roof turret. This proposal was rejected again in 1899 and the spire was restored in the new Gothic style with a gable roof .
In 1940 the tower suffered an artillery bombardment during World War II . Shortly after the end of the war, the damage was repaired and the original shape of the tower was restored. The interior was renovated in the mid-1950s.
description
Church building
The Efringen church has a rectangular, three-bay nave covered by a gable roof , the long sides of which have six ogival windows. The roof over the polygonal choir is hipped . On the outer south wall of the nave there are two epitaphs that remember the pastors Johann Diccius († October 18, 1653) and Martin Mauritius († March 16, 1703).
A three- story bell tower is attached to the nave, the gable roof of which runs parallel to the roof of the nave. On the upper floor it has round arched sound arcades on all four sides . The clock face of the tower clock is centrally located on the two gable ends above the sound arcades. On the other two sides, the dial is attached laterally offset below the roof edge. A pointed arch door in the tower basement forms the main portal of the church, which is entered through the tower hall.
The church is surrounded by a cemetery.
Interior and outfit
The nave and choir are drawn in with a flat wooden ceiling. On the north and west walls of the church there are galleries up to the middle of the nave . To the left of the simple wooden altar in the choir is the font . The organ is behind the simple altar. To the right of this is a pulpit ; The gray stone baptismal font is located between the altar and the stalls.
On the north wall there is an epitaph for the pastor Johann Casper Lang († January 5, 1661).
Bells and organ
The three-part bell of the church is composed as follows:
No. | Chime | Casting year | Caster |
1. | G' | 1702 | Weitenauer, Basel |
2. | a ′ | 1951 | Bochum Association |
3. | c ′ ′ | 1951 | Bochum Association |
The organ by EF Walcker from 1890 with a manual and a pedal had to be replaced by an electrium in 1964 because the instrument had been irreparably damaged by sponge infestation. In 1986 the Efringen church received a new organ from the Ahlborn company . A movement with a sliding drawer , fully mechanical action , a manual, a pedal and nine stops was built into a baroque case .
