Leeuwenhoek Medal
The Leeuwenhoek Medal was donated in 1877 by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences (KNAW) in honor of Antoni van Leeuwenhoek . It was awarded roughly every ten years between 1877 and 2003 to the scientist who, according to the Academy, had made the most significant contribution to microbiology in the previous decade. Since 2015, the medal has been awarded by the Royal Netherlands Association for Microbiology (Koninklijke Nederlandse Vereniging voor Microbiologie, KNVM) .
