Legend of the Five Rings
Legend of the Five Rings (English for Legend of the Five Rings ), often referred to as "L5R" abbreviated, is a fictional game world. This is the location of a trading card game and a role-playing game . It is modeled on a mythological Japan with fiefdoms , but also contains elements from other East Asian cultures. Legend of the Five Rings was conceived and designed in 1995 by the Alderac Entertainment Group . The title goes back to the famous Japanese samurai Miyamoto Musashi who wrote The Book of the Five Rings .

Basics
Legend of the Five Rings (L5R) is a role-playing game system set in a country called Rokugan , which is modeled on a mixture of feudal Japan and China. In this system, the player takes control of a samurai , scholar, court official or Shugenja (elementalist).
The value system, weapons, martial arts and their names are based on historical Japanese models. The behavior of the characters is in the foreground of the role play. These are based on romanticized models in which the concept of honor - especially in relation to "classic" role-playing games - plays a special role and "not to act unconsciously dishonor" is a central point. For this reason, the game requires a good knowledge of the basic rules and values, especially for the game master. The values are strongly based on the Bushido code and thus have real backgrounds.
Rules and game system
Ten-sided dice are rolled . The system uses a mechanism called " Roll & Keep ". In doing so, information is provided that prompts the players to select a certain number of results from a die roll. This system makes it possible to achieve values for the player character that are achieved less often in other games, such as Shadowrun , due to the approximation to the statistical mean value . For this, the notation 4b2 (English 4k2 ) is used for four cubes, of which only two values are kept.
