reception

Charts

Legend of the Liquid Sword peaked at number 75 on the Billboard 200 . It stayed on the US album charts for seven weeks.

criticism

The German e-zine Laut.de rated Legend of the Liquid Sword with four out of a possible five points. From the editor's point of view, Stefan Johannesberg, GZA is lyrically at a “ high level ”. The rapper's passion is “ less content-laden topics of a Nas or Krs-One ”, but “ complex play on words in terms of battle texts ”. Musically Legend of the Liquid Sword has " more parallels " to GZA's album Beneath The Surface than to Liquid Swords . The productions are " clear, almost too smoothly produced beats " that contain " modernly arranged [...] soul samples in a synthie guise ". The lack of cooperation from RZA, with the exception of one piece, was noticeable negatively.
