The LEGIC Identsystems Ltd (own spelling LEGIC ), headquartered in Wetzikon is an international Swiss provider of hardware, software and services in the field of contactless personal identification. The portfolio includes reader chips, transponder chips as well as software and services for the administration of ID systems. The products conform to the ISO standards ISO 15693, ISO / IEC 14443 , ISO 18092 ( NFC ) and the prime RF standard.
Legic maintains a worldwide network with currently over 300 licensed partner companies. On the basis of the technology platform, they develop a large number of ID systems with applications such as time and attendance , access control , biometrics , e-payment , parking, ticketing and other multi-applications.
The company has its roots in the “Legic Identsystems” division of Kaba AG in Wetzikon, which was created in 1990 . In 2002 the division was converted into an independent stock corporation. In 1992 the company was the first to present a contactless and secure smart card technology for access control and other identification applications on the frequency of 13.56 MHz.

Reader ICs
The reader ICs conform to the ISO standards ISO 15693, ISO / IEC 14443, ISO 18092 (NFC) and the prime standard. The 4000/6000 series also supports the cryptographic functions of third party transponders . When developing its reader ICs, the company pays attention to a small size and low power consumption.
Smart card ICs
Legic advant is the company's most advanced transponder technology. The advant technology is available as a chip or as an applet for NFC smartphones and bank cards and is compatible with ISO standards 15693 and 14443. Up to 4096 bytes can be stored on them and up to 127 applications can be combined. Industry standards such as AES, 3DES and DES can be used to encrypt the communication paths. Legic prime is the predecessor technology of advant and is still widely used.
Software and services
The Master-Token System-Control security concept links the control of an ID system to a special, physical smart card and is intended to guarantee a system operator independence from suppliers. There is also software for the administration of applications and authorizations in an ID system.
Legic Connect is a secure end-to-end service for the provision and immediate use of ID card functionality on mobile phones. It enables the immediate use of smart card applications such as B. access control, parking, ticketing etc. on a smartphone. Applications can also be found in the automotive sector. Legic equipped all BMW car sharing vehicles with smartphone-based access control.

The industry journal Protector & Wik commented shortly thereafter: "On closer inspection, however, it shows that the article relies much more on media-effective scaremongering than on solid information." However, only the scope of the problem is assessed differently, the attack as such is not questioned.
