Lehmanns Media
Lehmanns Media GmbH is a corporate chain of bookstores with specialist scientific literature. The owner is the Luxembourg investment company Lafayette Mittelstand Capital. Previously, the Deutsche Ärzte-Verlag was 100% owner.

Lehmanns has branches with shops in Berlin, Dresden, Düsseldorf, Erlangen, Essen, Gießen, Halle (Saale) , Hamburg, Hanover, Heidelberg, Cologne, Leipzig, Mainz, Marburg, Munich and Ulm. In Essen there is also the library service and in Bietigheim-Bissingen the Internal Logistics Center (ILC), both without a shop. Since January 1, 2013, Huber & Lang has been part of Lehmanns Media with a bookstore in Bern (formerly Hogrefe Verlag ).
Lehmanns Media is known above all for the distribution of specialist media for doctors and medical professionals. Since 2016, an assortment with doctor and practice needs has also been offered. In the 90 years of selling played Linux - and UNIX -Fachbüchern as well as Linux and BSD - distributions (. Eg Debian GNU / Linux ) a major role. For a while, a separate Red Hat -based Linux distribution was sold under the name Halloween Linux .
Lehmanns has also been running a small publishing house Lehmanns Media , published in Berlin, since 1988 , which offers academics various services for diploma theses and dissertations , particularly near universities . There are also books from many other areas, further areas of specialization are medicine , computer science , veterinary medicine , natural science / technology as well as economics and law .
history
Lehmanns Media originally emerged from the Oscar Rothacker bookstore in Berlin, which was founded in 1872 and sold to the Urban & Schwarzenberg publishing house in 1901 . The name Lehmann goes back to Julius Friedrich Lehmann , who was not only important as a publisher of medical atlases (see Sobotta ), but also emerged as an avowed National Socialist and pioneer of racial doctrine. In addition to his publishing house, he founded JF Lehmann's medical bookstore in Munich in 1890, and sold it to Max Staedtke in 1896, who ran the bookstore under this name until 1945.
On January 1, 1946, in addition to the medical program of JF Lehmanns Verlag, JF Lehmanns medical bookstore was also acquired by Verlag Urban & Schwarzenberg, initially reopened as a medical bookstore in Munich - the actual store had fallen victim to war damage - and in 1972 in Oscar Rothacker renamed. Urban & Schwarzenberg already operated the other branches in Berlin, Cologne and Regensburg under this name. When the Oscar Rothacker branches were sold to Deutsche Ärzteverlag in 1981, the company name (company) was not included, as Urban & Schwarzenberg wanted to continue operating their own mail order bookstore under this name. For this reason, the company shell JF Lehmanns Med. Buchhandlung, which was closed in 1972, was reactivated without being aware of its historical burden (according to the source). In 1997 there was another name change in Lehmann's specialist bookshop .
The company has been operating under the name Lehmanns Media since August 2011 . In 2018, Lehmanns Media was taken over by the Luxembourg investment company Lafayette Mittelstand Capital.
