Leibel is a German family name . The name is mainly used in the Palatinate and Alsace .

Origin and meaning

Leibel derives from the old German first name Liutbald with the meaning: "People bold, bold, especially people = very bold". The name Liutbald is made up of two names: althochdeuschem Liut (people or people) and Bald (bold). The fall of the final consonant resulted in Bald: ball und bel.
