Louis Lemasson (born February 22, 1929 in La Vergne , Charente-Maritime Department , † December 2001 ) was a French football player and coach .

Career

The 176 centimeter tall defender Lemasson worked as a physical education teacher in Limoges before he was signed by the first division club UA Sedan-Torcy in 1955 , making the leap into professional football at the age of 26 . At a time when substitutions and substitutions were not yet possible, he played only one game in the top French division in his first year, where he also scored his first goal. The defensive player, who worked alongside football as a worker, was called up again on October 5, 1956 in a game against Racing Strasbourg and then managed to become a regular player. From then on he was firmly established in a team that usually occupied midfield positions in the first division. Due to an injury he fell out for some time at the end of the 1957/58 season, but was able to recover from it.

Lemasson achieved his greatest success when he moved into the 1961 national cup final with Sedan-Torcy . He was on the pitch when his team won the title thanks to a 3-1 win over Olympique Nîmes . At the same time this brought with it participation in the European Cup Winners' Cup ; Lemasson made his debut on European turf, but had to accept the elimination after the first round. On January 21, 1962, he broke off with a 2: 0 victory in a league match against FC Sochaux the fibula and retired a long time. Nevertheless, despite his age of almost 33 at the time, he managed to return to the first team. This he remained until he ended his professional career in 1964 at the age of 35 after 224 first division games with two goals.
